Weekly Political Breakdown – July 10th

Political Breakdown of the week

A weekly political breakdown with a different view. While I believe the daily uproar is a distraction, I also think we can use those stories to learn.

DeSantis struggles

He cannot find his footing. I did start seeing some good messages from the campaign, but he seems to suffer from the same problem Romney had in that, he does not seem to have a core. A core that is him, that is working for springing from him.

He is taking this or that action, I suspect, based on advice from the campaign. It’s not coming off. Ultimately, you have to have a program for America other than culture wars and odd moves around Trump.

Will the real Ron DeSantis please stand up

This is the problem that plagues so many people who run for office. The genuine person, for whatever reason, does not come through. I think a lot of them never really had a good reason, but some just get all mixed up in the process.

Looking at his background, I suspect he is a top notch human. Let the real person come through. Maybe people do not like him, maybe they do. But it cannot be worse than what is happening now.

One main reason we liked Clinton, Bush, and Obama is that the real person came through in their campaigns. I have a strong suspicion that DeSantis can do this as well. He will do well to go back to when he seemed to be moderate, or if not that, reasonable.

You cannot out Trump, Trump

DeSantis is trying to poach Trump supporters, and its not working. The problem is, they are probably not to be had until the general election. You cannot outtrump Trump. He will go lower than you can imagine, so do not bother.

At one point, he was thought of as a reasonable version of Trump. I am not sure why they felt the need to move away from this, as I think it was the right path to victory.

Biden Admin moving to the Center?

The Biden administration is clearly steering away from early progressive movements and issues. There has been much debate about why, but I suspect it has everything to do with wanting to win the election. Meaning, those issues did not go over well.

If one looks at what those in his administration and their supporters are saying, it has nothing to do with the first two years of policies. Not mentioning COVID, Afghanistan, Diversity, gender, and more.

Why?

Those people who like those issues are going to vote for him anyway. The problem is that a lot of moderates did NOT approve of all those issues or the way he went about them.

The question is, will enough people look past that? If Trump is the alternative, most likely.

Many “objective” people have the same message

It is curious how the Biden administration (press secretary and the like) has the exact same message that so many “non-biased” members of the world, such as academia, have. If one reads their messages on social media or in columns, there are remarkable similarities. Curious indeed…

But what is the solution? Fairness in Reporting Act? Maybe. How do you provide for a free press to do important work when that press has a major credibility problem?

Wall of Silence

I would love to start a movement against each side’s bogeymen. Simple, ignore. Whatever reason you have and however much your detest them and think they are going to ruin this nation, ignore. You add fuel to the fire.

Think about this: when you lose your mind over the latest thing, it makes the opposition, in the form of their supporters, elated with joy. Do not give these ridiculous people satisfaction. Just ignore them, and they really will go away.

Ask yourself, What am I really getting out of participating in the roasting of this person or party? What is the real motivation?

Fighting fire with fire was tried and it failed

Many of you think it is important to fight fire with fire and “expose them”. But seriously, this has been tried with everyone from Palin to Trump through AOC, and it only strengthened them.

Pointing out how incompetent these people are does not help. Pointing out that they saw stupid things has not helped. Pointing out how they have taken actions that threaten to undermine democracy, has not helped. Finally, pointing out how they contradict themselves again and again has not helped.

Once more, it was tried and failed. Except, except for those who constantly report on these things, this has done quite well for them.

Those you hate would be nothing if not for you

The only reason they gained platforms was through your disgust. Once more, channel that and ignore. If you do not click and view, no one will put up their content.

Almost all of the people you follow make their living off of content popularity as you well know. In some cases, they do not want to put that up but they know it will get views.

Therefore, if you really and truly believe that person to be the spawn of Satan, ignore them at every turn. See what happens. And no, this was not tried, not ever.

Journalists views on social media

At what point is a journalist going too far by expressing full-throated support for one side? Can one be a good, objective journalist and be so one-sided on almost every issue? Is it possible this will not impact their coverage at all? Why do people not seem to care?

Drugs in the White house

Could not be more irrelevant. This story is just plain nonsense and is only used as a weapon against the administration. An unneeded weapon at that.

Lastly, out of all the news to come up last week, did any of those major stories involve an issue having a lasting impact on our lives? Which of them will we remember in three years, two years, or one year?

Take a longer view

It is my personal belief that in order to get past this confusing time, we must go from a one foot to a 25-foot view of our world. Look at the broader strokes and how these things play out in the long run. What you find is that a lot of this is pure hot air that has no real impact.

When you begin to view the world this way, you start to see these issues stretched out over a longer timeline, which will provide you with perspective. That perspective will cause you to search for the real issues, which are much more significant than someone’s behavior at this moment.

As always, we have the government and lives, we deserve.

David
